Larry Claypool of The Vair Shop, in Frankfort, IL, was kind enough to open his shop and his knowledge to the Illini Mets on Sunday, 13 May 2001.
Larry described troubleshooting a hesitating motor, changing the polarity of a Met from positive ground to negative ground, and gave us a tour of his collection of rear-engined cars from around the world.
Unfortunately, your webmaster did not take notes of any of these tips (this won't happen again!)
If anyone would like to e-mail me their notes, please do so.
Notes from Gary Bosselman:
We had a Tech Session in Frankfort, IL at Larry and Mary Beth Claypool's. We had another good turnout. We had three cars to learn from. Thanks to Gail Brandys and Bill Latham for volunteering to e volunteers. I also brough an early 1954 for people to giggle over. many subtle differences between the later and earlier years. Larry showed us how to convert a car to 12V negative ground. We learned the basics of tune-ups, how to check timing and vacuum and mechanical advance. I would like to thank Larry and Mary Beth for hosting us. Larry spent several hours getting ready for us, and all attendees appreciated it. Larry has been collecting European Eastern Block cars, and had many nicely restored, unusual examples. We had a mini car show at our Tech Session.
